The Marines’ Memorial Association & Foundation Scholarship Program will award over $120,000 in scholarships for the 2025-26 Academic Year! The Program continues to emphasize financial need and ensure scholarships are awarded to the most talented and qualified students to realize their educational dreams.
The selection process is based on scholastics, personal achievements, financial need, a 250-500 word writing prompt, one (1) letter of recommendation, and a “Headshot” photo. Complete and submit the online application no later than Sunday, 16 March 2025 at 11:59pm PT.
Launch of Our Comprehensive Campaign
The Marines’ Memorial Comprehensive Campaign is a general fund effort with a big goal that serves an even greater vision. Simply put, its purpose is to secure vital funding for ongoing and future initiatives, to enhance our facilities, and expand our programs and veteran outreach—all to ensure that we sustain our mission well into the future.
Our plan is to create immersive tributes to US military branches, campaigns, and heroes throughout the 12 floors of the Club building. Starting with the yellow footprints of the Marine Corps floor.
Darren Walton’s memoir offers a compelling and raw portrayal of the Vietnam War, drawing readers into the heart of the conflict through the eyes of a Recon Marine. By blending vivid descriptions of the intense realities of combat with moments of dark humor, Walton provides a nuanced and thought-provoking perspective on the war.
His narrative vividly captures the toll that war takes on soldiers, shedding light on the sacrifices, dangers, and the deep bonds formed amidst the chaos. Walton’s reflections go beyond personal experience, illustrating the long-lasting impacts of war not only on those who fought but also on the communities that support them. His memoir is a powerful and moving exploration of the human cost of war.

Meet the Author: Barry Pencek
Operation Tailwind
Tuesday 4 March
6:00 PM
Renowned Author, Vietnam Veteran, and Marine Veteran Barry Pencek was born in Scranton, PA and a Cumberland College graduate. He joined the USMC and flew attack helicopters in Vietnam. Following his Marine Corps tour, he went to graduate school at the University of Georgia and then worked for Bell Helicopter in Iran as a flight instructor with the Iranian Army. Upon returning to the States, he joined the Marine Corps Reserve and began a career in commercial aviation, eventually flying with Emery Airfreight, Eastern, Pan Am, and United Airlines.
Operation Tailwind was a top-secret mission in Laos in 1970 in support of a larger CIA operation that originated in the White House. It remained classified until twenty-eight years later when CNN produced a documentary about it. Barry’s book exposes the truth on an incredible story.
